Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks

There is something for everyone at Baltimore City Recreation and Parks summer day camps, also known as Camp Baltimore.

Through our diverse Fun Camps at City-operated recreation centers, Speciality Camps for a particular hobby interest, aquatics-themed Swim Camp or Camp Variety for youth with disabilities, there is something to help kids ages 5-12 grow physically, mentally, educationally and socially.

BCRP camps have a 10:1 child/counselor ratio and are designed to keep kids engaged, active and focused. Camps run for seven weeks from June 24-Aug. 9, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Extended hours are available for an extra fee. Lunch is included in camp fees. Registration opened March 1.

Campers get to participate in sports; display their talents through the arts; ignite their imaginations through creative play; explore the outdoors through nature, and so much more! They will make new friends and memories that last a lifetime.

For more detailed information on Camp Baltimore, including locations and prices of each camp, visit our Camp Baltimore page and download our summer camps brochure. Or, call 410-396-7900.

Mulch Volcanoes Are Proven Tree Killers

By Glenda Weber Mulch Volcanoe Trees
Baltimore City Recreation and Parks

Most people know drinking and driving don't mix but did you know trees and volcanoes don't mix? Volcanoes? In Baltimore? Yep, I see volcanoes all over the city and beyond.

On my daily commute, I have watched trees be planted, carefully surrounded by a volcano of mulch and that poor tree spends the next three to five years dying. By volcanoes, I mean mulch piled in a dome around the trunk of the tree. Frequently the tree is young or newly planted and the homeowner wishes to give the tree some tender loving care.
